I spent a lovely morning at Letcombe Valley with Judith today. There was a lot of this stuff growing, some of it very tall. At first I thought it was cow parsley, but a friend suggested hogweed as a possibility.

Either way, it looked pretty.

Exactly two years after the Year 11 Ball, this evening saw the Sixth Form Leavers' Ball.

They all looked gorgeous - here are just a few of them, having a Pimms-flavoured get-together before the off.

I started this canvas for my daughter last year. It's shocking that it's taken until this week to finish it. It's not an original design, but instead one by the very fabulous artist Sheila Arthurs (her Flickr page is here) I messaged her and asked permission to use the design and she kindly gave me the go ahead.

It's an 11½" canvas & just done in coloured pencils and fibre tipped pens.

I went to town this morning to photograph the buskers. But there were no buskers, and nobody told me there would be no buskers. There was, however, a short ceremony to mark Armed Forces Day, so I photographed that instead.

Here, our Town Crier is giving it some, announcing what's going on. I witnessed a small boy with his hands over his ears, and overheard a young girl ask her mother why the pirate was shouting. Made me chuckle.

I met up with a Camera Club friend this afternoon. She has a Lensbaby with Sweet 35 optic, which I've never tried. We swapped optics for a while, and I now firmly have the Sweet 35 on my photography wish list. This shot was taken with the S35.

I think it's safe to say I'm probably never going to win a Camera Club competition with a Lensbaby shot; but creatively speaking, I absolutely love what these things can 'do'.

25 June 2015

On Monday evening, the boy and his teammates were at the Kassam Stadium to collect the OMYFL U14's Fair Play award for Season 14/15.

Well done guys.

Clever Lou managed to find a field of poppies. Actually, she found two fields. Not ordinary red poppies, oh no ... pink poppies, almost as far as the eye could see.

Thanks for the lift, Mrs O-J x

We had quiet cause for celebration today.

Turned out that celebration was largely chocolate-flavoured.

I took Mum to the school and Sixth Form's Art Exhibition this afternoon.

The daughter will kill me for this, but these are some of the pieces of her work for her Art 'A' Level which were on display.

I've been looking after Daisy for a couple of weeks.

Normal service has now been resumed, as this evening her regular servant reappeared.

18 June 2015

A fellow Camera Club member told me on Tuesday about a Moorhen nest in one of the pools at Ardington, so Lou and I went over to see if we could find it earlier today. We did find it, but the mother moorhen and her babies were all merrily swimming around, and not on the nest.

My shots of them are largely crubbish, so instead here's one of the swan which was also in this part of the water today.

15 June 2015

For various reasons I haven't got out to get a photo today, so this is one from yesterday. I had two cameras with me, each with a different lens. Yesterday's shot was taken with one camera/lens combination and this was taken with the other.

Bumble bee on a chive flower - I watched him for so long, we were almost on first name terms.

14 June 2015

Spent a lovely afternoon wandering around the Open Gardens at Letcombe Bassett, with Anna, Tracey (and Lou, once she'd finished twitching).

As always, Arabella's Cottage was just gorgeous.

13 June 2015

Horrible weather again, so the busking was cancelled.

I think today is a Netflix kind of day - what do you recommend?

12 June 2015

A very grey and rainy day in these parts. If my dad had still been around, this weekend would have seen his 80th birthday. I'm sure we'd have been having a party, shindig, gathering or 'do'. I went to see him this afternoon to have a chat and wish him Happy Birthday.

I hope he still gets a good shindig.

Nothing much happened today, other than domestic stuff; so I took a picture of the aquilegia that's grown in the front garden at Mum's. She and I (separately) have both tried for years to grow these things, with zero success. But this year, this one has popped up all by itself.

No idea of the variety (possibly 'common-or-garden'), but it's very welcome and I shall be snaffling some seeds.

She started at Secondary School on 3rd September 2008.
Today she took her last 'A' Level, so it was her last day there.

She's happy about this!

Enjoying narrow depth of field, bokeh and backlighting; because that's how I roll.

This morning's buskers in town were Eloise Rees and Dave Oakes. Eloise is a well known local musician, having been picked by none other than Whispering Bob Harris (as one of three acts from the UK) to go to Nashville to play a festival a couple of years ago.

Her website is here if you're interested - CLICK

A day of domestic doings. One of the places I cleared out was the plastic box containing my photography equipment. I found some extension tubes I'd forgotten I'd ever bought. I don't know when I acquired them, but I know I've never used them. So I wondered what would happen if I put the extension tubes AND the Lensbaby (plus macro converters) on the camera. The pretty pink gerberas I received earlier this week (thanks T! x) were the perfect subject matter.

Wow. I'm not putting those extension tubes back now: They're staying in my camera bag.

4 June 2015

I went to watch the boy and his teammates play a (school) match of 20/20 cricket this afternoon.

Nice win, guys!

3 June 2015

I spent a lovely couple of hours at Letcombe Valley with Finola this afternoon - she'd never been there before. Whilst she wandered, I sat amongst the buttercups and took various macro shots.

I think this is a Hawthorn Shield Bug, but am willing to be corrected.

2 June 2015

2 June 2015

I'm feeling rather achey today so haven't been out to find a photo. Instead, I'm recording the fact that the boy won a medal at the Crowmarsh Tournament on Sunday.

He and his teammates won the 'Consolation Plate'.
This means they were losers; but better than many of the other losers!

1 June 2015

Outside is a bit chilly and damp today, so I decided an 'indoor playing' shot was the way to go. This was my first time using the Lensbaby Creative Aperture set I got for my birthday.
I think it'll need a bit of practice, but I'm going to have fun with these things. (Obviously this was the 'star' aperture.)

Below is another shot, this time using the heart shaped aperture.
