31 May 2015

Today I went to the Botanic Gardens in Oxford with Tracey.

There is no way I could choose just one picture for the day, so I'm afraid it's a collage.
Thanks for driving, T x

30 May 2015

A couple of the buskers who performed in town this morning.

I've never seen a moustache hanging from a pair of glasses before, so this guy had to be my picture of the day.

29 May 2015

It's not often the boy deigns to come out with me when I go to take photos, but today he did: He even admitted the views were good.

That's Didcot Power Station in the distance, probably about 8 miles from where we were standing.

27 May 2015

I nipped over to Letcombe Valley with Tracey this evening to give my new Canon 50mm lens a try out (it arrived yesterday).

Obviously, it's going to take a bit of practice to get used to, but it managed to make stinging nettles look pretty, and I'm happy with that.

26 May 2015

26 May 2015

Ardington House was open, so I went for a quick wander this morning. It was clear from the busy-ness of the marquee and things like the ribboned Merc, that there was going to be a wedding there today.

Nice day for it.

25 May 2015

King Alfred. His statue stands in the town centre.

The poor guy has been vandalised a few times over the years,
but I'm pleased to say that at the moment he's looking great.

24 May 2015

24 May 2015

I had plans to go out photoing today, but a horrible migraine put paid to that.

So all I've done is stay in, and take this picture of an osteospermum bud.

23 May 2015

23 May 2015

This morning's buskers were Rosehips, our local belly-dancing troupe (complete with their own band). I have lots of shots of them dancing, but like this picture of one of their members having a quick crafty Costa during one of their brief breaks.

All five dancers:-

22 May 2015

Not a very photographically interesting day today. Got loads of paperwork sorted and filed away. As well as phone calls made, catch up chat with Pen, and hair cut about to happen.

So you've got raindrops on a (lily-of-the-valley) leaf in the garden.

21 May 2015

Today's shot is dedicated to the memory of my friend Karen O, who has sadly lost her five year battle against cancer. She was one of the strongest, bravest, most positive people I have ever encountered.

If you have any prayers or thoughts going spare, please direct them to her wonderful husband Glenn,
their fourteen year old son Anthony, and her family.

Cheeky butcher on the market today.

Shame about the metal pole going through his head.

19 May 2015

19 May 2015

I took the car for an MOT in Childrey this morning, so wandered along to the village pond to get today's picture.

18 May 2015

Trying to get to grips with the potential tilty-shifty possibilities with this lens.

16 May 2015

16 May 2015

My third time photographing these guys doing a busking gig. They are such fun; it's a real pleasure to see people break into smiles when they catch sight of them singing and acting out their songs.

Also, they remembered my name from last year - so that earned them photo brownie points.

15 May 2015

15 May 2015

If you go down to the woods today,
You're in for a big surprise ...

I took other shots today which are prettier, but I'm going to use this as my picture of the day because it was so unexpected, and different. I've never seen anything bigger than a human go up or down these tracks before, but all of a sudden, this tractor appeared, pulling a trailor of logs behind it.

This is how it normally looks down there:-

14 May 2015

14 May 2015

It has been persisting down all day. I did take a picture of the plant on the kitchen windowsill, but it did nothing to actually represent the day, So I got off my bum and went out to find a drippy image for this extremely drippy day.

13 May 2015

13 May 2015

When I got up and saw the sky first thing this morning, I thought I'd head up to the Ridgeway and try to get a nice landscape shot. Turned out the Youth Hostel and woods up there were overrun with eleventy hundred small boys, who were presumably on a school residential of some kind.

I took a total of five shots and left!

12 May 2015

12 May 2015

Today I've got lots of little jobs done; but suddenly realised I hadn't taken a picture for the day.  Good job the green at the front of the house has lots of buttercups and daisies all over it.

I'm sure the neighbours think I'm bonkers - I haven't seen any of them lying on the floor eye to eye with a buttercup; so I'm definitely the (very) odd one out.

11 May 2015

11 May 2015

I let Norman use my Lensbaby, but he didn't like it.

He gave it back to me, took two travel sickness pills, and went to bed.

9 May 2015

9 May 2015

Today saw the start of the busking season in town. I've never photographed handbell ringers before. It was clear it is a musical discipline which requires huge concentration; one 'ding' or 'dong' out of place, and everyone would notice.

I spotted this lady wearing little golden bell earrings, and thought it a nice touch.

8 May 2015

8 May 2015

Lou loaned me her Lensbaby Macro converters. (Oh my goodness, they absolutely *must* go on my 'Photography Kit I need' list.)

We went over to Letcombe Valley again, and some of the shots I got are, I think, well worth the pain I experienced, when I sat on a large thistle!

7 May 2015

7 May 2015

General Election day. Marking the fact that it's the first time my daughter has been able to vote.

I'm impressed by how politically engaged she and her friends seem to be.

5 May 2015

5 May 2015

The Shaw Trust in town has a window full of old cameras, tripods, bags, photography books, a monopod, and even an old screen.

Well, I say a window full, but Lou and I found it, and it's now nearer half a window full.

4 May 2015

4 May 2015

Today, Tracey and I went over to Sparsholt Manor for their open day. It's open just one day each year, and is a really lovely place. I had a lot of trouble deciding which shot to post, but in the end preferred the one of the Manor itself.

Here's another shot of one of the areas surrounding the large lake -

Thanks for driving, T x

3 May 2015

Last league game of the season, and a handsome win for the lads.

Well done guys.

2 May 2015

2 May 2015

Tracey and I had a wander around the fair in town this evening. I think it's the least busy I've ever seen a fair here.

Wasn't like that back in my day!

1 May 2015

1 May 2015

Today I practised some more Lensbaby Love, this time at the Aston Pottery, along with Din and Jac. We went to see the tulip display before it all went over. I had a lovely time.

Thanks to Din for driving, and to you both for your company. x
