31 March 2015

It's blowing a gale out there today; but at least it's dry (so far). I went for a wander at one of my favourite places to get today's picture. The wind is blowing so hard, it was really difficult to keep the camera still.

This was taken between gusts.

30 March 2015

In a brief break from blanket-making, I tried my hand (!) at fingerless mitts.
They're okay, but a bit too big for my little hands.

Still, at least I now understand the general principle of making them, and will definitely have another go.

29 March 2015

Well, it was very much third time lucky for me on going out to find some shots of spring sheep or lambs. That was because Tracey and I went to the Earth Trust Lambing Weekend at Little Wittenham  where we not only saw lots of sheep and lambs, but also watched a ewe give birth to twin lambs (helped a bit by the farmer because the first lamb was the wrong way round).

I had a lovely time; thanks so much for driving, Tracey. xx

28 March 2015

It's grey and drizzly outside today, but luckily I have some sunshine in a vase on the windowsill.

27 March 2015

I thought I'd go out looking for a spring-like picture of a sheep or two.

For the second time, I didn't find any sheep; but I did find a horse, and a nice view.

Fi gave me a beautiful bunch of flowers.

This is a shot of one of the irises in it, in bud and ready to unfurl.

23 March 2015

A very emotional and moving day, but also one with moments of sadness, and some tears. Today we said our goodbyes to Mrs F, Fi's mum. I knew her from the age of 5, and it will be ... odd ... that she is no longer in our physical world.

Rest In Peace, Iris. xxx

22 March 2015

Not too bad a day to be stood at the side of a football pitch. It was a close game, but the lads won 3-2.

It was good to catch up with Mrs T too :)

21 March 2015

Fi's on her way up from Devon. We will be spending the next two days getting our bake on.

I've already started.

20 March 2015

My friend Tracey and I wanted to get a shot of today's eclipse. We were planning to try to get a reflection shot at Baulking Lake, but when it came to it, the cloud present acted as a filter, allowing us to point our cameras, if not our eyes, upwards. Very narrow aperture to avoid too much light entering the camera!

The birds didn't go as quiet as I remember them doing back in 1999 - maybe water birds are different?

Very strange light for 9.30am in March!

19 March 2015

This morning I went over to Mum's to help her out with some housework. As I was dusting this picture of my maternal grandparents (Mum thinks taken around mid 1970's) I was transported back to the room in their bungalow that housed the piano and what seemed like a hundred african violet plants; along with memories of Bob the dog, and Grandpa cooking egg and chips in their little kitchen.

I'd love to know what my brother and cousins remember when they see this picture.

18 March 2015

After the worst of today's mist lifted, I thought I'd head out to find a spring-like picture of some sheep or even lambs. Could I find any in the usual place at Ardington? No. Then I wandered round to the field opposite the football club because there are always cows in there, and a shot of some cows might have been nice. But there wasn't a single cow in that field today. :(

So you've got a picture of Holy Trinity Church at Ardington instead. I shall go in search of animals again another day!

17 March 2015

A firm favourite chez nous, especially with the youngest human in the household.  I restocked our sweetie tin today.

Get them while you can ... only in the shops for another three weeks, then they'll be gone again.

16 March 2015

I have a vase of spring on the kitchen table to alleviate the effects of the grey and miserable weather outside.

Thanks to S&L for the flowers, they're gorgeous. x

Mother's Day. I had lovely gifts from my fabulous offspring, including an exact replacement for my favourite jug that broke last week. Thank you both xxx

Thinking of all the amazing mums I know - I hope you're having a great day; but also of those who no longer have their mums around to spoil today. xx

13 March 2014

A close up of one of the daffs I have on the kitchen windowsill this week. I had stuff to do today, and people to see, but it hasn't happened. I've done almost nothing and feel as rough as a rough thing.
I am posting this, then going to bed.

Night night x

12 March 2015

That awkward moment when you have crocheted all the stripes in the body of the blanket, sewn in all the ends, and start on the borders ... then run out of meadow green yarn 10 ripples from the end :( Thank goodness then, for the lovely Lindsey Smith who had a part-ball lying around and sent it to me. I received it today. I know Lindsey from my days of crafty blogging: What a fab group of ladies I 'met' back then - still in touch with most of them 8 years later.

Thank you Lindsey, you're a star. xx

11 March 2015

Gosh, this has to be the earliest I'll ever post my picture of the day; and it's because I took the picture last night. I wanted to document the fact that yesterday evening my daughter and some of her 'A' Level Music peers from Sixth Form performed at St Mary's Church, Childrey, as part of the performance requirement of the exam. The church was full, and they all did really well - proud mama moment. I'm not sure that this 11th century church has ever before witnessed Jimi Hendrix being blared out of an amp, but it has now. (The daughter played a Ben Howard piece on guitar.) The church may be old, but it has bottom-warming pews, which was very welcome on a cool evening.

Well done guys - you did good!

The weather is far too lovely for me to stay indoors for today's shot, so I nipped over to Lockinge this morning.

8 March 2015

8 March 2015

I spent a lovely couple of hours at Cothill Fen with Tracey this afternoon. I'd never been there before, despite having driven past it hundreds of times. I didn't even know it existed until very recently. It's a lovely place, and I have struggled to choose just one shot to use for today. In the end I went with this one, which shows a clearing in front of some small parts of limestone cliffs (there are larger ones too). There are also some wet woodlands and a whole array of wildlife and plant life.

Definitely somewhere to revisit. Thanks for driving T xx

7 March 2015

Okay, who thought I'd forgotten to take a picture today?
I was hanging on because I wanted one of the host and hostess at a party I went to this evening.
We were all there celebrating Trish's 'big' birthday.

Thanks so much you two, I had a lovely time. x

6 March 2015

Today is my (big) little brother's birthday. As you can see, I found him the perfect card.

Happy Birthday Neil - see you tomorrow. xx

I've been busy with domestic doings today, so you've got a picture of our lovely feline family member.

You can see lots of 'tufts' in her fur - because she's about to moult big time!

Privately, Norman wasn't keen on Felicity's idea of a game of hide and seek;
but she was so enthusiastic, he hadn't the heart to say no.

He knew exactly where she was hiding, but decided to leave her up there for a while in the hope it put her off them ever playing the darned game again in the future.

3 March 2015

3 March 2015

The sun was out, so I thought I'd go and take a picture of my favourite tree. By the time I got there, the clouds had gathered, turned darker and hidden most of the sun.
After I got back, the sun came out again.

It's definitely been one of those days.

One of the very best things about going to Camera Club is the lovely people I have met there. This afternoon, I had a great time with Judith, Anna and Tracey, exercising our macro muscles.

Thank you, ladies. :) x
