28 February 2015

This afternoon I had a cosy Costa catch-up with a cousin.
We managed to chat away two hours with no problem at all.

She is one of my closest friends, as well as my cousin.

Lunch!

When a lovely friend and neighbour unexpectedly knocks on your door with a gift of (humungous) fresh cream scones, what else is a girl to do?

Thanks T xx

Today I made a new friend in 10 week old Otto.

He is absolutely gorgeous.

25 February 2015

Yesterday I went out with the intention of getting a shot of some snowdrops, but it was so windy, the dainty little things wouldn't keep still.
Today the wind has dropped, so I headed back out, and got the shot I really wanted yesterday.

If at first you don't succeed ...

We've had some sunshine today, so I went out to get today's photo. It's very windy, so the clouds were scooting across the sky.

Those 'stripes' in the foreground were made by long shadows from the trees in the wood.

The main body of my blanket is finished ... now I'm sewing in ends.

Lots and lots of ends.

A friend who chooses a gift bearing in mind the likelihood that it will be photographed is a lovely friend indeed. Thanks Carol :) x

Today's picture is especially for two friends going through some tough stuff. xxx

As my children will agree, I woke up in a grumpy mood today. I think after almost two weeks of illness (first them, and then me) I needed to get out into the fresh air. After dropping the lads off at football training, I headed up towards the Ridgeway.

As you can see, some of the puddles up there are quite large, and very full.

Today has turned out to involve reading vast numbers of reviews about Internet Service Providers, since we are going to change ours (if you have any horror stories or sage advice, please feel free to leave it in a comment!)

But also a little bit of playing around with some abstract images; I haven't photographed this sort of thing for years, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The British weather, doing what it does best.

(I'd normally have taken this shot with my 50mm, it's only been dead for three days and I miss it terribly :/ )

18 February 2015

A shot from a WCC practical evening last night, because today I'm not going anywhere or doing anything. I really wasn't feeling the photography last night, and I think it shows: Wasn't feeling great, it was very cold, my remote shutter wouldn't work, and the the drunken yoof I encountered didn't exactly help. On the plus side, I chatted to a nice guy who told me he collects old cameras, had a cool discussion about crafting back at the hall, and enjoyed a quick visit to the pub with the BRG afterwards.

I definitely need to visit somewhere busier than Wantage on a Tuesday evening to get some decent light trail shots.

I went to Waitrose on Sunday morning (15th Feb) to discover lots of flowers on sale: Presumably they'd overstocked for Valentine's Day. 15 red roses for £1.99? It would've been rude not to buy them for myself.

Now gracing the kitchen windowsill.

16 February 2015

16 February 2015

Two different aspects of today.
Firstly, it has piddled down with rain ALL day.
The boy has had a friend round and they've been Xbox-ing for most of the day.
Secondly, I went to pick up my old 450D (with 50mm lens attached) to take the picture of the boys gaming, only to find it wouldn't focus (either manually or auto focus). I then found I couldn't remove the lens.
The lens has taken the camera body hostage: I can't separate them.

After a quick google, I've discovered this isn't an unusual problem for this lens. I'm going to have to get it to someone who knows what they're doing, and I will probably have to lose the lens for the sake of saving the 450.
So glad it didn't get stuck on the 7D!

UPDATE! After many hours of attempting to get the lens off, we managed it! The lens mount has snapped on the inside, and that's what prevented it coming off.
I'm sad to lose the lens, but so glad the 450 body is okay.

Norman wasted no time in going out to try out his Valentine's Day gift from Felicity:

A fish eye attachment for his camera.

13 February 2015

Jac and I visited Mr O-J as it's his birthday. Whilst we were there he had a FaceTime call from Lou, who is in Vietnam. Isn't technology a wonderful thing?

My kids can't conceive of a world without the interweb;
things were very different before it was 'born'.

Dear Mr 12th Feb,
I think it fair to say that thus far I have not particularly enjoyed you.
Apart from the baking that is ... those cakes are good.

Yours,
...

I had a lovely catch up with D over a cuppa at Wildwood Kitchen in town this morning. It's fairly new; the last time I set foot on the premises, it was a shoe shop!

As you can see, it wasn't terribly busy today, I think there were as many staff as customers.

10 February 2015

10 February 2015

It's unusually quiet here. You might think that's normal for a term-time Tuesday, but today the kids are both here, so quiet isn't normal.
They are both lurgified with germs and feeling sorry for themselves.

As you can see, Georgie is perfectly happy with the peace and quiet.

A daughter artwork. She asked me to make it clear it's not an original, but her interpretation of a picture taken by someone else.

I still think it's fab.

8 February 2015

It's been a beautifully sunny day, but so cold. I should really have gone out with the camera, but when I noticed the pink tulips I've had all week were dropping their petals, I elected to stay warm and play arty-fartiness with the tulips instead.

I posted off this handknitted scarf and coordinating wool felt brooch to a friend this morning.

I hope she likes them.

Today I went to the Nuffield in Oxford to have a bone scan. Bit of a boring photo collage really, but it records the fact that I went.

Many thanks to Carol for driving. x

I sat for almomst two and a half hours in this Reception area this morning, whilst the daughter had her portfolio interview for a place on the Foundation in Art & Design Course (at Abingdon).
It has such a lovely atmosphere there.

At the end of her interview they offered her a place, so big smiles all round chez nous.

Today is the first day this year that I've had trouble deciding which shot to use for my picture of the day. I have half a dozen from today that I quite like, but in the end have chosen this one to reflect (!) the fact that today Tracey and I went and found the big lake at Baulking.

Thanks for driving, T x

I nipped round to Lou's to pick up hers and Mags' entries for the next two competitions at Camera Club (they will both be away and miss the hand-in dates). Lou had picked up all her money for her trip (Singapore, Vietnam and Cambodia, I think) so that was my photo today.

We're going to miss her in the BRG for the next few meetings; have a good time, Mrs O-J! xx
