Bubbles

Bubbles

Bubbles 2

Another experiment involving the glass vase with flat sides. My son was off school for a couple of days (yet another horrible virus) but when he'd started perking up, I got him to help out with this experiment. I put some washing up liquid in a little water at the bottom of the vase, then got him to blow through a straw to produce bubbles. I found putting different colours behind the vase (I used fabric since I am a fabric-a-holic, and have way too much of the stuff) produced very different results.

Still Standing

Still Standing

A shot taken earlier this month when it was snowy ... a defiant seed head standing above the snow up on The Ridgeway.

Glamour Puss

Glamour Puss

This week Miss Georgie-Cat was in a very relaxed frame of mind. She loves to lie like this: on her back with her legs in the air. Total tart.

Texture is by pareeerica - thank you :)

So there I was, wandering around in the woods, and on looking up I saw this. I have no idea how or why it was there, but I was happy to both find and photograph it.

Rainy Rivulets

Rainy Rivulets

I don't know about anyone else, but I need some sunshine and spring - I've had about enough of winter!

Being Watched

Being Watched

I wonder if birds enjoy watching us the way we enjoy watching them? This robin was taking an interest in me taking pictures last week. Not one of my best shots by a long way (it's just not sharp enough) but I liked it enough to upload it anyway.

Feeling Peachy

Feeling Peachy

When I first started photographing flowers I took a lot of shots from this perspective - right in the face of the bloom. I rarely do that now, but it felt right to revisit this point of view today. A gerbera flower provides one of the best array of petals there is on a single bloom.

Sepia Snow

Sepia Snow

Shot taken last Friday when our world turned white. The snow has almost all gone now, although it's still there on the higher ground, and in little 'piles' at the sides of the roads.

A Walk in the Park

A Walk In The Park ... Winter Style

The snow came back. This time it was the powdery stuff, rather than the icy version which we had last weekend. According to my son, the powdery stuff is much better for snowballs, and snowball fights. After dropping him at school yesterday morning I went to a local park, and then on up to The Ridgeway to see how things looked with a sprinkling of snow. Some of it has melted now, but it's freezing again today, so quite a bit of it is still here.

"Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple" ~ Dr Seuss

"Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple"

This image is the result of an experiment:

One square sided glass vase filled with water.
One dropper of blue food colouring.
Drip food colouring into the water, and then photograph the ensuing patterns.

I could have watched it for hours - the way the coloured liquid 'fell' through the water was fascinating. The kids helped me with my experiment and were also mesmerised by the results.

Hellebore in Bud

Hellebore in Bud

I took this shot up on The Ridgeway last month - I hope the recent snow and freezing temperatures haven't affected them too badly. Texture by Kim Klassen - thanks Kim :)

Another shot taken whilst watching my son play football ... trees in the mist.

Ardington House in Mist

Ardington House in Mist

When I got up last weekend to take my son to play football in Ardington, and saw how misty it was, I knew I wanted to try to get a shot of Ardington House from the very edge of the football field. I was hoping it would look quite ethereal in the mist. I went as close as I could whilst still keeping on Football Club land, and this was the result.

February Snow

February Snow

It snowed for hours yesterday, but I don't think it will be around for too much longer. It seems to be melting already.

I had to take a shot of 'food' for a Camera Club project, so I settled for this Kiwi Fruit.

Decay

Some wind fallen apples up on The Ridgeway, provided a feast for these flies. It's early in the year for flies!
