Cricketer

Bus Cricketer

I saw this on the side of a bus in Oxford and just liked the graphic feel of it.

Yellow Rose

Yellow Rose

I visited someone else's house to find they'd got some beautiful yellow roses in a vase on the table. Naturally, I had to ask if I could take some shots, as I knew it would be perfect for No.50 - Yellow, in my 112 in 2012 project at Flickr.

Chairs

Chairs

Some chairs in the waiting room at The Children's Hospital in Oxford. My son had an outpatient appointment on Monday (don't worry - he's ok).

Warmth

Warmth

Another shot from the archives ... because I needed a bit of warmth. It's freezing cold here again today (-3°C on the car temp gauge for the school run this morning).

On Reflection ...

Reflection

This reflection in my mum's bird bath caught my eye. The bird bath is near a smoke bush which has red leaves, and with some of the leaves in the bottom of the bird bath, there were pink patches in the reflection of the trees from a neighbour's garden.

Poppy

Poppy Again

Poppy

This is Poppy - my next door neighbour's cat. We looked after her for a weekend last year when her family were away, and I took some photos of her for them. She's a total sweetheart.

Checking In

Checking In

Street and candid photography is something which I'd really like to try doing a bit more. This guy caught my eye - I think he was having a cigarette break to check his mobile phone and see what he was missing. Ain't technology a wonderful thing? I remember the days when if you were out, you were unreachable!

Enchanted Tree

Enchanted Trees

Last month I went to see the 'Enchanted Christmas' display at Westonbirt Arboretum. It's on every year for four weekends in the lead up to Christmas. We had tickets to go in December 2010 but the big snow happened, and the road to the Arboretum was closed on the day we were going. This year the weather was much kinder and we finally got there.

There is no need for Photoshop on any of the shots I took that night - this is really how the trees looked with the various light effects shining on them against the backdrop of the dark night sky.

Something Red

Something Red

A poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) Apparently named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico, who introduced the plant into the US in 1825, after finding them growing in the wild in South Mexico.

Can you guys manage to keep these things? I don't know what I do wrong, but they invariably start to lose leaves and I end up with just a stalk with one or two leaves on it, by the middle of January.

Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree

My first entry for my 112 in 2012 project at Flickr - No.111:- Christmas. That subject either needed 'doing' at this end of the year, or the other, and I thought I'd get it out of the way now; so nipped into town last night to get some shots. The lights are actually all blue, so I desaturated it, and then added a gradient over the top to create this coloured version.

I took down our Christmas Tree at home yesterday - the sitting room looks kind of 'blank' without all the cards and decorations up.

Waiting Wishes

Waiting Wishes

One from the archives ... a whole lot of wishes waiting to be wished for, and granted. And what are New Year's Resolutions, if not wishes of a sort? I have a couple of resolutions - not terribly profound ones, just ones to try to improve an aspect or two of my life. Have you made any resolutions?

I think Oprah Winfrey's quote is probably the most apt for today:-
"Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right."
